How to Modernize Drapes
February 1, 2013
Draperies tend to come with the stigma of being old fashioned and traditional however with the use of pattern and color, they can be modern and fresh! So which patterns and colors should you use to modernize your
drapery
? That is what we are here for! Keep in mind that the list below is a guideline; just because a certain pattern or color isn’t on it does not mean it can’t be modern.
Patterns:
Stripes: the bigger and bolder the better
Chevrons: strong and graphic, you can’t go wrong with a bold chevron pattern
Graphic floral: not your grannies floral, think young and fresh
Moroccan: similar to chevrons but with more curves and less bold
Solids: a solid can be the best pattern, especially if the fabric you choose has a bit of texture to it
Colors:
Taupe
Cool Grays
Deep and Dark Blues
Bright Reds
Light and Sage greens
If you stick with the colors and patterns listed above when choosing fabric for your draperies, you are sure to love the end result.
Some patterns that you may want to steer clear of if you are going for a more modern style are usually the really busy patterns. These can include small floral prints and even smaller plaid prints. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself, “Would my grandma have this in her house?” If the answer is yes, or even maybe, keep searching.
Good luck and don’t be afraid to include draperies
into your modern styled home!
